Alvin Temm

SCARBOROUGH — Alvin F. Temm, 77, died Monday, Nov. 28, 2022, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

He was born June 13, 1945, in Portland, a son of William Sr. and Alice (Neault) Temm.

Al was known as “kind-hearted Al”, always helping someone and putting others first. Al grew up on a large farm with a large family on Beech Ridge Road in Scarborough, graduating from SHS in 1963. He was an extremely hard-working, strong, generous, and fun-loving man always providing for his family and helping others.

For such a big man, he was light on his feet and was a wonderful dancer, attending country dances in New Gloucester and Naples in the 60’s and 70’s where he met his wife Harolene. They were married on Oct 17, 1964.
He was the most loving husband and father and was so proud of his two daughters, Debbie and Heidi.

Al had many jobs, starting out delivering coal for Lund’s, driving cement mixers for Blue Rock and jacking up and moving buildings with Rusty Willis. He also spent 32 years at S.D. Warren Paper Company, where he would often work the night shift, and then would pour concrete floors during the day as part of a business he ran.

Al became an EMT in the early 1970s while living in Westbrook for 10 years, and volunteered for the Westbrook Rescue. He then moved back to Scarborough, where he cleared land and built his home on part of the land he grew up on. He later served on the Scarborough Zoning Board of Appeals.

Al also helped to transport food for the Good Shepherd Food bank to local food pantries. He was proud to have become a Master Mason in 1978. He enjoyed many hobbies over the years including: hunting, fishing, NASCAR races, gardening, fly tying, welding, snowmobiling, listening to music and reading (especially Randall Probert’s many stories about Maine Game wardens and the Maine woods). In recent years, he loved mowing his large field with his Kubota tractor. In prior years, he would often bush hog and rototill gardens with his John Deere. He was a friend to all, who loved life, visiting and telling stories, often with friends at Tory Hill Cafe.

In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by: his brothers, Alfred, Clifton and William Jr.; and his sister Barbara Temm. He is survived by: his loving wife of 58 years, Harolene (Raymond) Temm; daughters, Debra Temm and her partner Paul Dillaway, and Heidi Akeley and her husband Brent; siblings, Charles Sr., Albert, Betty Grant, Frances Erickson, C. Roy, and John;as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
