Portland police say vandals destroyed a windscreen that was put up around the tennis courts at Deering High School this year.
WCSH-TV reported that sections of the windscreens were cut up Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning. The cost of the damage was estimated at $2,500. The windscreens, which block wind to improve the quality of play on the courts, cost $5,000 to install.
School officials are asking for the public’s help in identifying the vandals. A $500 reward is being offered.
Assistant Athletic Director Gloria Miller said the vandalism will affect the school and its tennis players, and the many residents who use the tennis courts.
“I’m heartbroken. It makes me cry that it’s gone,” Miller told WCSH-TV. “It was such a great addition to our tennis courts, the facility around us.”
