The military interventions in Iraq and Afghanistan, largely initiated by Republicans, have proven disastrous, with no end in sight to the continuing bloodshed and chaos.
Today, efforts to achieve peaceful solutions by negotiation and compromise are belittled by those such as former Vice President Dick Cheney, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Sens. Lindsey Graham and Ted Cruz.
It seems that Susan Collins, in spite of her reputation as a “moderate” Republican, rather than do the right thing, has chosen to stand shoulder to shoulder with right-wing neoconservatives and fellow Republicans in pursuing the failed policies of the past.
Indeed, by aligning herself with those who spurn negotiation and compromise, the senator has shown herself to be a veritable hawk in dove’s clothing.
