(Updated to note that Benoit’s intentions were announced in a press release – S.M.)

Former state Senator Paula Benoit is considering another run for the state Senate.

Benoit, a Republican, announced in a press release that she may pursue the District 19 seat currently held by Sen. Seth Goodall, D-Richmond. Goodall plans to resign at end of the legislative session to become the regional coordinator for the Small Business Administration.

District 19 includes Bath, Topsham and several other towns in Sagadahoc County. Benoit held the seat between 2007 and 2009 during the 123rd Legislature. She was also a special assistant to First Lady Ann LePage before leaving the position last year.

No Democratic challengers have emerged for District 19. There are several possibilities, including Rep. Seth Berry, D-Bowdoinham, the House Democratic leader who will be termed out of the House at the end of 2014.

Goodall’s seat will be decided through a special election. It has not yet been announced.
