A 34-year-old New Gloucester woman was arrested late Saturday night in Gray and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a Class D misdemeanor, after leaving her 7-year-old son alone in the car for several hours, police said.
Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office deputies were alerted that an intoxicated female was acting suspiciously on Main Street, near the Gray Square. Around the same time, Samantha Lovering flagged down an officer and said her car had been stolen, the sheriff’s office said.
Her vehicle was located some distance away with her son asleep in the back. Officers determined he had been left there alone for several hours, and that the vehicle was not stolen, but had been left there by Lovering, the sheriff’s office said.
Lovering was taken to the Cumberland County Jail, where bail of $60 unsecured was set.
The child was picked up at the scene by his father.
