Whoa! In “Another View: Editorial overstates impact of oil-by-rail disclosure exemption” (Dec. 20), Mike Shaw has the situation wrong, and your earlier editorial has it right.
Indeed, Maine agencies have stopped revealing “where, when or how” crude oil is transported through the state.
Mr. Shaw needs to be shown my newsletter, which for two years has published when oil was being shipped by rail, in monthly totals, by railroad. The Maine Department of Environmental Protection has stopped furnishing the information.
Mr. Shaw is correct in stating that no oil has been shipped by rail since March. And, given the crude oil economics, we won’t see any for some time, if ever again.
