HOULTON — Police say a Maine man is being held on a charge of holding his naked girlfriend against her will.

Houlton Police Chief Joe McKenna says Dushko Vulchev is charged with kidnapping, assault and domestic violence. He remained in custody Friday, a day after his initial court appearance. It was not known if he has a lawyer.

Houlton police said officers knocked in the door to Vulchev’s house on Tuesday after his girlfriend’s family told police she had not gone to work and she wasn’t answering her cellphone.

In federal court last year, Vulchev pleaded guilty to threatening a foreign official.

The Bulgaria native sent a threatening email to a Bulgarian economist who is a member of the European Commission, saying, “I will kill you like chickens.”
