The American Red Cross of Maine is sending two volunteers to Houston, Texas, to help in the recovery effort following flooding that devastated areas in the region, according to a report by WCSH-TV.
Shaun Kieran of South Portland and Bob Melaragno of Auburn are traveling with relief supplies to the city Wednesday, the television station reported. The volunteers will help distribute food, water and other supplies.
Storms dumping 17 inches of rain in 24 hours early this week are responsible for at least seven deaths, according to CNN. More than 1,000 homes have been flooded and many people are without shelter.
The Red Cross has established 13 shelters around Houston, according to the WCSH report.
