The State Theatre deserves massive applause for its production of the Mavis Staples-Bob Dylan show last Saturday night. The email alerts on what to bring, and how to park, were written in a mellow tone, telling us that we could bring our own food and drink. (Contrast this policy with the oppressive food-drink check at Foxborough.)
The accommodations at Thompson’s Point were well arranged, the supplies thoughtful (free water!), the security check-in people polite and quick. The sound was terrific – not too loud and quite clear; neither airplanes nor Interstate 295 noise intruded.
How was the concert itself? Good! Staples was upbeat and active at 77, and Dylan did not disappoint (as he does half the time, apparently).
