We are extremely disappointed at the various ways that Sen. Susan Collins is avoiding coming out in strong opposition to the candidacy of Donald Trump.
First she muses that her support would be forthcoming if he softened his harsh language – as if someone who has always been bigoted, abrasive and insulting could somehow change. Second, she has remained silent as he targets women, immigrants and, if fact, anyone who is “different.”
When will Sen. Collins take the courageous step, like Sen. Margaret Chase Smith did with Sen. Joseph McCarthy, and publicly oppose Mr. Trump’s candidacy? Mainers certainly deserve better.
