VoteTrac: The Legislature overrides Governor LePage's state budget veto
The Maine Legislature on Tuesday overrode Governor LePage's veto of L.D. 1019, the state’s two-year $6.7 billion budget proposal. A two-thirds majority is necessary to override a Governor's veto, and in their final votes, the House voted 109-37 and the Senate voted 25-10 in favor of the bill. The approvals came just in time before the old budget would have expired at midnight, June 30, and thus averted a state government shutdown.
The Legislature initially approved the budget on June 19 by a margin of 105-42 in the House and 31-4 in the Senate.
