CUMBERLAND—The 2017 Class B Cross Country State Championship took place at Twin Brook this past Saturday, Oct. 28, with the Lincoln boys and the Yarmouth girls reeling in top honors.

Yarmouth’s Luke Laverdiere, as expected, took the boys’ title, completing the 5K course in 15:43.89 – the third-fastest time ever. Wells’s Mitch Libby followed Laverdiere, finishing in 16:47.43. Among area athletes, Gray-New Gloucester’s lone rep this go-round, Parker Morse, finished in 34th (18:39.89). Lake Region’s Nate Casali, the third freshman to finish, crossed the line 29th, in 18:32.70. Teammate Jeff McCubrey, a sophomore, finished 59th, in 19:15.57.

Freeporter Lily Horne claimed first place among all girls, besting Sophia Laukli of Yarmouth by more than 30 seconds, 19:10.85 to 19:42.61. Gray-New Gloucester’s only racer this year, Alison MacDonald, crossed the line 67th, in a time of 23:40.90.
