Dr. Godefroy Watchiba, a native of Democratic Republic of Congo, worked as an infectious disease and HIV specialist in his native country before he immigrated to the United States. When he first came here, he was homeless, and stayed at a Portland shelter and received General Assistance benefits. He is now going to school to get certification as an ultrasound technician.
