Charley Baer of South Berwick grows heirloom beans and uses antique equipment to sort and process them.
Baer holds the flower of a growing cannellini bean at his farm.
Bear's Best "top quality, hand picked" heirloom beans are bagged and ready for shipment at Lover's Brook Farm, owned and operated by Charley Baer of South Berwick.
Baer uses this 1960-era International planter to plant his 20 acres of heirloom beans. The planter can plant four rows at once, adds fertilizer and plants an acre an hour. "Growing beans takes a lot of specialized machinery," says Baer.
Three varieties of his heirloom beans, Jacob's Cattle, Marfax and Calypso, are grown at Lover's Brook Farm.
Baer uses this 1948 Farmall Model C tractor every day for light duty work as he farms heirloom beans.
