After being trapped for nearly two hours, Central Maine Power crews were able to turn the power off, and Farmingdale firefighters were able to extricate Cotnoir and his wife, Sara, and their daughters, Skye and Ella. No one in the West Gardiner family, who were returning from church services, was injured.
Paul Chesser waits for a wrecker Sunday on to pull his car onto Route 3 in China. Several drivers lost control of their vehicles because of slush and snow from the season’s first snowstorm. Chesser, a nurse, was returning from work treating veterans at the Togus VA hospital when he slid into the ditch.

Winslow police officers help a woman who got stuck in the snow on a hill after stopping for a two-vehicle accident, at right, on the China Road on Sunday. Police said there were no injuries in the accident that halted traffic because of the slippery conditions.
This truck slid off snow-covered U.S. Route 202 in Troy, struck a tree stump and came to rest on top of it on a snowy Sunday. A nearby motorist said the driver was not injured and had given him a ride to his nearby home.
