Casey continues to cruise in Match Play tournament

Paul Casey has yet to play the final four holes after three days of the Match Play Championship in Marana, Ariz.

That’s because he has won all three of his matches 5 and 4, the latest over Brian Gay in the third round on Friday.

Sergio Garcia also advanced to the quarterfinals, beating Tim Clark 2 and 1.

PGA: Joe Durant shot a 5-under 66 to increase his lead to two strokes in the Mayakoba Classic in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

Durant had a 12-under 130 total after opening with a 64.

J.P. Hayes (67) was second, and Cameron Beckman (68) was another stroke back at 9 under. Tom Pernice Jr. (68) and Brian Stuard (67) were 8 under.

LPGA: Suzann Pettersen shot an 8-under 64 to take a three-stroke lead over Hee Young Park in the Honda PTT LPGA Thailand in Pattaya, Thailand.

With the weather fluctuating between sun and rain, Pettersen had her second bogey-free round to reach 14-under 130.

Park shot a 66. Ai Miyazato was another shot back after her second straight 67.

n Christina Kim was shaken but unhurt when the bus she was riding in crashed leaving the course hosting the LPGA Tour event.

CHAMPIONS TOUR: Tom Jenkins and Jay Haas shot rounds of 8-under 64 to take the lead after the first round of the Allianz Championship in Boca Raton, Fla.

HOCKEY

QMJHL: Marc-Olivier Mimar broke a 3-3 tie with a power-play goal 1:33 into the third period and the Baie-Comeau Drakkar went on to a 5-3 victory over the Lewiston Maineiacs in Baie-Comeau, Quebec.

Billy Lacasse, Michal Hlinka and Jess Tanguy scored for the Maineiacs.

TENNIS

DUBAI CHAMPIONSHIPS: Venus Williams ended Shahar Peer’s run at the tourney championship with a 6-1, 6-4 victory in the semifinals in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

OPEN 13: Robin Soderling was upset by Michael Llodra, losing 7-6 (2), 6-4 in the quarterfinals in Marseille, France.

COPA TELMEX: Second-seeded Juan Carlos Ferrero won his eighth straight match when he beat Santiago Ventura 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the only quarterfinal before rain washed out play in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
