Following an afternoon bank robbery at Norway Savings Bank on Route 1, the nearby Rowe Elementary School, which accommodates about 180 kindergarten and first-grade students, was locked down as a precaution between 2:30 and 3:10 p.m.

The steps were taken even though there was no indication the robber had fled in that direction, said Superintendent Judy Paolucci. A police dog searched the area of the school and found no indication the robber had been there, she said.

Students were dismissed at the usual time, she said, but the school remained in lockdown mode, with exterior doors locked and monitored, for afterschool activities, she said.
