A group of leaders from the government, business and nonprofit sectors plan to gather at noon today at the Portland Public Library to discuss ways of addressing Greater Portland’s poverty problem.

The panel discussion includes Chief Justice Leigh Saufley, Portland school Superintendent Jim Morse and Ethan Strimling, chief executive of LearningWorks, which organized the event with sponsorship from area businesses.

The panel discussion seeks to address why poverty is becoming a critical problem in Greater Portland, its impact on communities and how different sectors of the community can work to reduce that impact.

The event runs from noon to 1:30 p.m.
