JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. — Joint Base Lewis-McChord is holding a memorial service today for 21-year-old Spc. Wade A. Slack of Waterville, Maine, who was killed in combat May 6 in Afghanistan.

He was assigned to the 707th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Company.


 

Wade Slack, a 2007 Waterville High School graduate, specialized in disarming explosives. He died from mortar fire wounds after his unit was attacked.

His family has created a foundation in his name to support the families of fallen soldiers. Donations may be sent to Wade Slack Foundation, 2748 B Riverside Drive, Vassalboro, ME 04989.
