PARIS, Ky. – Former CBS News correspondent and University of Kentucky journalism school director David Dick has died. He was 80.

Dick worked at CBS News 19 years. He won an Emmy Award in 1972 for his coverage of the attempted assassination of Gov. George Wallace.

He left CBS in 1985. In 1987, he was named director of the University of Kentucky’s journalism school. He retired from the school in 1996, and went on to write 13 books from his Plum Lick Farm in Bourbon County, publishing them through his own Plum Lick Publishing.

Before joining CBS News, Dick worked for WHAS radio and television in Louisville.
