MASHPEE, Mass. – A pilot and a youth minister shooting aerial video for an upcoming sermon escaped serious injury when their small plane splashed down in the waters just off Cape Cod.

The Coast Guard and the Federal Aviation Administration said the single-engine Cessna crashed shortly before noon Monday about 100 yards from South Cape Beach in Mashpee.

The pilot, Michael Keeling, and passenger Josh Adams made it to shore with the help of lifeguards from the beach. Keeling had minor injuries and Adams was unhurt.

Keeling said he decided to put the plane down in the water after experiencing engine problems.

In a separate incident, the Coast Guard said a seaplane carrying a father and two children flipped over while attempting to take off in the Cape Cod Canal. There were no injuries reported.
