The Midcoast Sports Hall of Fame will induct Jeff Hart, Carroll LaHaye, Bob Brown, Dean Erickson and the late Bob Morrill on Oct. 16 at the Rockland Elks Lodge.

Hart has coached the Camden Hills boys’ basketball program since 1983, leading the Windjammers to 397 wins, eight Eastern Class B titles and five state championships.

LaHaye, who attended Medomak Valley High, has won 471 games as head coach of the women’s basketball team at Randolph-Macon College, leading the program to six Old Dominion Athletic Conference championships.

Brown has won 583 games in 40 seasons of coaching high school and college basketball teams, including seven years at Rockland, where he also served as athletic director and golf coach.

Erickson had 594 points and 375 assists in his basketball career at Medomak Valley, helping the Panthers to the Class B state title in 1977. He also played at Brown University.

Morrill, who died in 1997, was a teacher and coach at Rockland for 39 years. He led the baseball team to a state championship in 1989 and also coached football and basketball.

Robert Spencer of Chevy Chase, Md., won the Hobbs Pond swimming race in Hope on Aug. 8. Spencer, 17, finished the 800-yard loop in 7 minutes, 55 seconds. Lianne McCluskey, 15, of Hope was second in 9:00, and Eddie McCluskey, 15, of Hope was third in 9:13.

 

Adam Larochelle of Mt. Vernon, Jeff Hershberger of Greenwood and David Cyr of Farmingdale won their respective categories at the Saddleback Challenge mountain bike on Aug. 8 in Rangeley. Larochelle placed first in the expert category with a time of 2 hours, 8 minutes. Hershberger won the sport category in 1:48, and Cyr won the novice category in 1:33.

Jim Sharples scored a hole-in-one on the 110-yard seventh hole at Great Chebeague Golf Club on Aug. 4. He used an 8-iron for the shot, which was witnessed by Sandra Sharples.

 

Jeff Wass of Rockland used a 5-wood to ace the 215-yard ninth hole at Rockland Golf Club on Aug. 8. The shot was witnessed by Mer Doucette, Bert Vanorse, Bob Callahan.

 

Ricky Roberts made a hole-in-one on the 192-yard fifth hole at Willowdale Golf Club on Aug. 9. He used a 3-iron for the shot, which was witnessed by Harry Strothers, Russ Warnberg and Bob Nadeau.

Jerry Quarry, 87, of Ogunquit, made a hole-in-one on the 120-yard 12th hole at Dutch Elm Golf Club on Aug. 11. He used a 5-iron for the shot, which was witnessed by Bill Merchant and Ben Baldwin of Kennebunkport.

 

Jenny Schubert of Portland aced the 17th hole at Nonesuch River Golf Club on Aug. 11. The 115-yard shot was witnessed by Hilary Doane.

 

Richard Kennedy made a hole-in-one on the 16th hole at Falmouth Country Club on Aug. 13. Kennedy used an 8-iron for the 135-yard shot. Witnesses were Dave Horne, Russell Briggs and Barry Howgate.

 

Linda Carroll carded a hole-in-one on the ninth hole at Pupoodock Club on Aug. 13, using a 3-wood for the 160-yard shot. Witnesses were Sherron Small and Shirley Higby.
