BELFAST — A Maine man accused of shooting his wife to death after she nagged him about a new muffler he bought has pleaded not guilty to murder.

Forty-eight-year-old Michael Littlefield of Brooks was charged today with intentional or knowing murder in the alleged shooting of 49-year-old Deborah Littlefield in their home on June 25.

Police say Michael Littlefield told a friend that he shot his wife because she had given him a hard time about the cost of a muffler he had purchased for his pickup truck.

The Bangor Daily News says Littlefied is being held without bail.
