AUGUSTA— Maine’s congressional delegation says a $1.4 million federal grant will help to expand broadband services in rural Washington County.
The Department of Commerce grant goes to Axiom Technologies LLC in Machias as part of the federal stimulus act.
Axiom provides broadband Internet and telecommunications services to rural communities in Washington County. The company intends to use the federal grant to provide broadband education, training, access, equipment and support to community-service institutions and economically vulnerable populations in the county.
The funding will expand distance learning services for health care professionals, and equip local farmers and fishermen with wireless equipment.
