Former South Portland High basketball standout Keegan Hyland has left the University of Vermont and returned home, his father, Tom Hyland, confirmed Wednesday night.

Hyland, a 6-foot-3 freshman, spent the fall semester at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash., but left after suffering a knee injury and a concussion. He transferred to Vermont before the start of the spring semester in January after considering the University of Maine.

NCAA rules will require Hyland to sit out two semesters if he accepts a scholarship to play at another Division I school.
