OLD ORCHARD BEACH – Thomas Butler pitched a four-hitter as second-seeded Briarcliffe defeated top-seeded Southern Virginia 6-2 Wednesday in the championship game of the USCAA Small College World Series at The Ballpark.

Kevin Licul and Christopher Ahearn each had two hits, drove in one run and scored one for Briarcliffe (32-15).

Josh Linn drove in both runs for Southern Virginia (30-10) with a double and single.

Briarfcliffe forced a championship game by avoiding elimination earlier Wednesday with an 11-9 victory over Southern Virginia.

Butler went 3 for 4 and Briarcliffe built an 11-0 lead by scoring six runs in the sixth inning.

Andrew Snider went 4 for 5 for Southern Virginia. Tyler Cox and Linn had two hits and drove in two runs.
