PORTLAND — Zach Horton singled in Ryan Curit in the ninth inning Tuesday to lift third-seeded Morrill Post to a 2-1 victory against second-seeded First Title in an American Legion Zone 4 semifinal at MacDonald Field.

Curit reached on a two-out double.

Morrill made it 1-1 in the eighth when Evan Indorf doubled, reached third on an overthrow and scored on a single by Tom Salamone.

First Title scored in the seventh when Tyler Flaherty hit a one-out triple and beat the tag at the plate following a grounder by Ryan Casale.

The game featured outstanding pitching from both starters.

Andrew Richards struck out eight and walked none for the complete-game victory.

Joey Royer also pitched all nine innings, striking out 11 and walking two.

Both pitchers allowed six hits.

 

ANDREWS 7, SACO-BIDDEFORD SAVINGS 3: Caleb Fraser pitched a six-hitter, and had two hits with three RBI to lead fourth-seeded Andrews over top-seeded Saco-Biddeford Savings of Westbrook in a Zone 4 semifinal at Westbrook High.

Fraser struck out 11, including eight straight from the last out of the first to the first out of the fourth.

Fraser hit an RBI double in the first and a two-run single in the ninth.

Tim Rovnak and Michael Scala also had two hits for Andrews.

Zach Gardiner and Zach Collett were repeat hitters for Saco-Biddeford Savings, which will play the Zone 5 runner-up Saturday for a spot in the state tournament. Collett, who stole two bases, hit a solo homer.

 

RAMSDELL-ROGERS 9, SA-CO-BIDDEFORD SAVINGS/ BIDDEFORD SAVINGS 1: Paul McDonough tripled home two runs, then scored on Adam Bailey’s two-run single as third-seeded Ramsdell-Rogers broke a scoreless tie with a five-run third inning in a Zone 5 semifinal victory against second-seeded Saco-Biddeford Savings/Biddeford Savings at Old Orchard Beach.

Anthony Sciaudone had three hits and three runs for Ramsdell. McDonough also had three hits.

SEACOAST LAW & TITLE 6, CUMBERLAND 0: Mike Rioux dominated Cumberland (4-10), pitching a 15-strikeout one-hitter during a Seacoast Law (14-1) victory at Cumberland.

 

OA-YARMOUTH 18, FIRST TITLE 7: Tom Sullivan scored all five times he reached base, and Caleb Uhl scored four times as OA-Yarmouth (12-5) beat First Title (7-8) in six innings at Portland.

 

GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 14, FALMOUTH 5: James Alt had four hits with three RBI and three runs as visiting Gray-New Gloucester (8-8) handled Falmouth (2-14).

Justin McKenna had three hits, including a two-run double in a four-run fourth inning. Aaron Boulos and Tim Lerette also had three hits, and Kevin Cavallaro added two hits for Gray-New Gloucester.

WINDHAM MERCHANTS 11, FAYETTE-STAPLES 1: Cody Dube had two hits with three RBI, and Jack Herzig pitched a three-hitter with eight strikeouts for Windham (15-1) against visiting Fayette-Staples (8-9).

Herzig, who scored twice, and Joe Francoeur also had two hits. Alex Fallon hit two triples for Fayette-Staples.

NECBL

SANFORD 7, DANBURY 2: Pat Devlin scored on John Sulzicki’s homer as Sanford (16-13) tallied twice in the sixth inning to take a 4-2 lead over the Westerners (19-11) in Danbury, Conn.

Devlin finished with four hits for the Mainers, including an RBI single during a two-run ninth.

NORTH SHORE 5, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 3: Eric Jagielo scored when pitcher Jim Dimon misplayed Matt Boulter’s grounder, allowing the Navigators (16-15) to tie Old Orchard Beach (7-26) at 3-3 in the eighth inning at Lynn, Mass.

Chase Harrison then singled home Dario Pizzano with the go-ahead run, and Boulter scored on an error.
