PORTLAND  — The Democratic National Committee chairwoman is telling Maine party members to get organized at the grassroots level in preparation for the 2012 elections.

U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida was in Maine Tuesday meeting with party activists, leaders and volunteers.

Speaking at the Portland Public Library, Wasserman Schultz said money in politics gets a lot of attention, but volunteers’ time is much more valuable. She said the party can’t win without you knocking on doors and making telephone calls.

Wasserman Schultz also talked about the need for the party to build energy for the 2012 races.
