ROXBURY — All-terrain vehicle riders are assessing damages to popular riding trails in western Maine that were ravaged by heavy rains from Irene.

The Roxbury ATV Riders Club says several sections of the 200 miles of trails it maintains were rendered unusable following the downpours from the remnants of Hurricane Irene late last month.

Club President Michael Worthley tells the Sun Journal of Lewiston that the storm resulted in crushed culverts, damaged bridges and washed-out trails.

Worthley says the club is going to raise money to pay for trail repairs. A fundraiser ride is scheduled for Sept. 17.
