BRUNSWICK – Jordan Rysdham ran for 146 yards and three touchdowns, and Keith Kitchens added 140 yards and a TD as Brunswick beat Lewiston 50-12 in a Class A football game Friday night.

The Dragons (2-1) needed just four plays to cover 66 yards on their first series, with Kitchens running twice for 37 yards and Rysdham gaining the rest, including the final 16 off left tackle.

Rysdham kicked the extra point and Brunswick led 7-0 just 1:14 into the game.

“They played hard but we came out focused,” said Rysdham. “The line opened some big holes and that made my job a whole lot easier.”

The Blue Devils (1-2) picked up a pair of first downs on their first possession before turning it over on downs at the Brunswick 34. Eight plays later, the Dragons scored again, with Rysdham carrying five times for 39 yards and Kitchens twice for 17.

Rysdham’s 3-yard run and PAT made it 14-0 with 4:06 left in the first quarter.

A 12-play, 80-yard drive that started in the first period ended with Jared Jensen going in from the 14. Rysdham’s kick made it 21-0.

After a three-and-out and punt by Lewiston, Kitchens went up the middle on first down, broke several tackles and went 54 yards for the score.

“They beat us bad last year,” said Kitchens, “and we definitely used that to our advantage this time. The line did its job opening up the holes and then it’s up to us to make people miss. It’s what we do in practice.”

The Dragons went 36 yards in nine plays to make it five touchdowns on five possessions, with quarterback Jason Carter running for 8 yards on fourth-and-7 and Rysdham taking it in from the 3 with 54 seconds left in the half. Rysdham missed the PAT kick, but Brunswick was up 34-0 at the break.

The Dragons totaled 311 rushing yards in the first half, and Lewiston gained just 53 yards on the ground and 24 in the air.

“Offensively and defensively, we were pretty physical,” said Brunswick Coach Dan Cooper. “We didn’t have to get too fancy or try to do too much because what we were doing worked.”

Lewiston scored on its first possession of the second half, Chris Madden hitting Caleb Johnson with a 13-yard pass to cap a nine-play, 53-yard drive.

After Jensen scored his second touchdown on a 10-yard run and Dan Thompson ran it in for the conversion to make it 42-6, Gabe Johnson took the ensuing kickoff and went 84 yards for a touchdown.

Thompson closed out the scoring with another big play, going 62 yards for a TD and then running for the 2-point conversion.
