SCARBOROUGH — State police say a vehicle rear-ended another near mile marker 42 in Scarborough caused southbound traffic to back up for miles this afternoon.

State Trooper Lee Vanadestine described the accident as fairly minor – there were no serious injuries – but said that the volume of Columbus Day weekend traffic caused a major traffic jam.

The accident was reported at 4:15 p.m Vanadestine said the accident scene was cleared by 5 p.m.
