PORTLAND — An international conservation group is holding a demonstration in Maine’s largest city to mark the two-year anniversary of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico to call attention to the risk of expanded offshore oil drilling.

Oceana will unveil a mock oil spill, complete with replicas of injured marine wildlife and oil-spill cleanup workers wearing hazmat suits at Portland’s Monument Square. It’ll also demonstrate clean energy alternatives with a model offshore wind farm complete with dozens of 3-foot-tall spinning turbine replicas.

Oceana says it wants to show not only that expanded offshore oil drilling is bad for the environment but that there are clean energy alternatives.
