AUGUSTA — The National Weather Service is posting flood watches in parts of Maine and New Hampshire as 4 or 5 inches of rain are expected in many areas this weekend.
Rain moved into New Hampshire before dawn today and spread to western Maine. By the time the heaviest rain starts tapering off early Monday, many areas will see 4 or 5 inches of rain and some areas even more.
The rain could cause many rivers and streams to overflow their banks, and the NWS has issued a coastal warning from 8 a.m. to midnight today and a coastal flood watch through Sunday night.
