TALLAHASSEE, Fla – Michael Fransoso went 5 for 9 with three doubles, three runs scored and three RBI as the University of Maine baseball team (4-5) extended its winning streak to four with a doubleheader sweep of Florida A&M (0-6) Sunday at Tallahassee, Fla.
In the opener Logan Fullmer struck out five and gave up two hits in six innings and Charlie Butler closed with three shutout innings to lead the Black Bears to a 5-0 win.
Alex Calbick and Scott Heath had two RBI apiece.
Maine took a 6-2 victory in the second game behind a complete game from Mike Connolly. The Black Bears broke a 2-2 tie with a four-run seventh that included a two-run single by Calbick.
BATES SPLITS WITH EMORY: Kevin Davis scored the winning run on a fielder’s choice as the Bobcats (4-2) scored three times in the top of the seventh inning to rally for a 5-4 victory over the Eagles (4-2) in the opening game of a doubleheader at Atlanta, Ga.
Steve Burke and Kevin McGregor each had three hits for the Bobcats and Burke and Griff Tewksbury each drove in two runs.
In game two Emory scored five runs in the first inning and held on for a 6-3 win.
NEW HAMPSHIRE 2, MAINE 1: Sara Carlson scored at 7:03 of the third period to break a 1-1 tie and lift the Wildcats (14-15-4, 10-8-3 Hockey East) over the Black Bears (5-23-4, 2-16-3) in a regular-season finale at Durham, N.H.
New Hampshire’s Nicole Gifford opened the scoring at 5:52 of the second. Brianne Kilgour tied it for the Black Bears on assists from Katy Massey and Hailey Browne with 3:29 left in the period.
Maine goalie Brittany Ott made 27 saves.
STONY BROOK 69, MAINE 53: Tommy Brenton tallied 13 points, 20 rebounds and seven assists to help the Seawolves (21-6, 12-2) clinch at least a share of the America East Conference regular-season title with a win over the Black Bears (11-17, 6-9) at Orono.
Ahead 35-25 at halftime, the Seawolves opened the second half on a 20-7 run, capped by Warney’s dunk to make it 55-32 with 12:28 remaining.
Alasdair Fraser scored 15 points for Maine (11-17, 6-9).
