HARRISON — A home located next to the Harrison town office sustained extensive damage Sunday night after fire broke out in the kitchen area.

Harrison Town Manager George “Bud” Finch said the home at 22 Front St. is about 20 feet from the town office. The town office was not damaged.

When firefighting crews encountered heavy fire in the first-floor kitchen when they arrived about 7 p.m..

Most of the fire damage was contained to the kitchen, but the remainder of the home sustained smoke,  heat and water damage.

Homeowners Dan and Kelly Maxfield and their three children were not at home when the fire broke out. The Maxfields plan to stay with relatives until their home can be repaired.

Finch said the cause of the fire is being investigated by the state Fire Marshal’s Office.
