The Yes! sixth-grade girls’ basketball team won the Classic bracket at the AAU Division II national championships in Hampton, Va., for the second year in a row.

The Maine squad compiled a 5-0 record in the Classic bracket after losing two of its three games in pool play. Yes! beat the Boston Sharks in the semifinals and the 6th Man Lady Warriors of Maryland in the final.

The roster included Isabel Dawson, Meg Kelly and Mandy Mastropasqua of Portland; Catherine Reid of Topsham; Mackenzie Emery of Limington; Meghan Hoffses of Windham; Lucy Leen of Cumberland; Mackenzie Holmes of Gorham; Claire Brady and Clementine Blaschke of Yarmouth; and Julia Martel of Westbrook.

Abby Rutt of Scarborough received New Hampton School’s female athlete of the year award during the school’s commencement.

Rutt was a three-sport captain, playing field hockey, hockey and softball. In softball, she hit .844 this past season with a school-record 10 home runs, 13 doubles, 44 RBI and 30 runs scored in just 12 games.

As a defenseman for the hockey team, she had 18 goals and 25 assists in 62 games over her two years at New Hampton.

Rutt will attend Wesleyan University in the fall and play hockey for the Cardinals.

Jason Weed of Portland made a hole-in-one June 29 on the second hole at South Portland Municipal Golf Course, using a pitching wedge for a shot that was witnessed by Jacob and Nicholas Small.

Lance Brown aced the 17th hole at Martindale Country Club on July 4 for his first hole-in-one. Brown used a 23-hybrid for the 160-yard shot, which was witnessed by his wife, Donna.
