A deputy from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office injured his knee Monday morning while trying to restrain a naked pedestrian who was walking along Route 1 in Edgecomb.

Lt. Rand Maker said the deputy, who was not named, suffered the injury after he got into a scuffle with the man. Maker identified the man as a 39-year-old Portland resident.

Since he has not been charged with a crime, Maker said the naked man will also not be named. Maker said the District Attorney’s Office will decide whether the man should be charged.

“He was completely nude,” Maker said. “There was obviously some type of medical issue going on with him. He wasn’t communicating in any type of fashion with us.”

More deputies arrived at the scene and determined that the man required medical treatment. He was taken to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.
