BIDDEFORD — Maine State Police said two men were dead Sunday night after a reported shooting in an apartment house on  Western Avenue.

Biddeford police were called to 16 Western Ave. about 7 p.m., said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

One man died at Maine Medical Center in Portland and the second died in an ambulance, McCausland said in a news release at 10:40 p.m. He said police had spent the previous hour securing the apartment, making sure it was safe for investigators to enter.

McCausland said police were unsure if  a third person was involved in the incident.

The state police Major Crimes Unit and local police were at the scene, and the intersection of Western Avenue and Main Street was blocked off.

McCausland said more details were expected to be released Monday morning.
