UMaine men’s basketball coach Bob Walsh added Antone Gray and Rob Toste to his staff. Gray will serve as an assistant coach, while Toste will work as the director of basketball operations and recruiting coordinator.

Gray was coach for one season at Juanita Sanchez Educational Complex in Providence, Rhode Island, guiding the squad to a 19-8 record, including an Interscholastic League Division III state title. He played for Walsh at Rhode Island College.

Toste most recently served as graduate assistant for Columbia’s men’s program.

HIGH SCHOOLS

FIELD HOCKEY: Lily Posternak of York was named to the 2014-15 U.S. Junior Women’s Under-17 squad.

Only a freshman last fall, Posternak led the Wildcats to the Class B state championship game, where they lost to Nokomis.

BASEBALL

AMERICAN LEGION: Jake Knop hit a three-run triple in the top of the eighth inning to lift Andrews (5-3) to a 7-4 win over Yankee Ford (7-6) at Cheverus.

Nick DiPalma had four hits, scored twice and was the winning pitcher in relief.

 Zack Bean struck out 12 while pitching a two-hitter and also had a pair of hits to lead Saco & Biddeford Savings (9-4) to an 8-0 win over Libby-Mitchell (5-9) at Scarborough.

JUNIOR LEGION: Zach Johnson had three hits and drove in two runs to lead host South Portland (9-3) to an 8-4 win against Wells.

NECBL: The Keene Swamp Bats (12-12) scored twice on an error in the first inning and held on for a 2-1 win over the host Sanford Mainers (16-9).

Prior to the game, it was announced that Sanford’s Aaron Izaryk will manage the Northern Division for the NECBL All-Star Game on July 20 in Holyoke, Massachusetts.

FCBL: Michael Pierson hit a homer and a triple, drove in three runs and scored twice to lead the Nashua Silver Knights (16-15) to a 6-2 win over the host Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide (10-21).

TWILIGHT LEAGUE: Mason Morgan broke a scoreless tie with a two-run double in the second inning and Andrew Richards threw six-shutout innings for Aero Heating & Ventilating (5-5) in a 6-0 win over Lenders Network (2-8).

GOLF

PGA: Zach Johnson and William McGirt were at 12-under-par 130 and tied for the lead at the halfway point of the John Deere Classic in Silvis, Illinois.

LPGA: America’s Mo Martin carded her second straight 3-under 69 for a three-shot lead over Beatriz Recari and So Yeon Ryu at the Women’s British Open in Southport, England.

CHAMPIONS TOUR: Colin Montgomerie had an even-par 71 and remained at 6 under overall, good for a one-stroke lead over Scott Dunlap in the U.S. Senior Open at Edmond, Oklahoma.

HOCKEY

NHL:The Columbus Blue Jackets signed center Brandon Dubinsky to a six-year extension worth a reported $35.1 million through 2020-21.

• The Tampa Bay Lightning signed forward Brenden Morrow to a one-year contract.

• The Arizona Coyotes signed forward David Moss to a one-year contract.

CYCLING

TOUR DE FRANCE: Overall leader Vincenzo Nibali maintained a two-second lead over Astana teammate Jakob Fuglsang after a 146-mile stage won by Italy’s Matteo Trentin.
