UNE women stay perfect with a 3-2 soccer win

Becca Murphy scored her second goal of the game to break a 2-2 tie with 9:16 left in regulation and the University of New England stayed unbeaten with a 3-2 women’s soccer win over Colby on Tuesday in Waterville.

UNE (5-0) scored first on Kara Hecker’s goal with 2:46 left in the first half. Maddie Tight tied the game for Colby (1-3) 14 minutes into the second half.

The Nor’easters regained the lead on a goal by Murphy in the 70th minute, but Colby tied the game 2:35 later on a goal by Janie O’Halloran.

Goals in the first 20 minutes by Micole Collette and Sahara Brown helped New Hampshire Technical Institute (1-0-0, 1-0-0 Yankee Small College Conference) top Southern Maine Community College (1-3-1, 0-2-1) 4-2 in South Portland.

MEN’S SOCCER: Eric Goitia scored with 2:39 left in the second overtime to lift Bowdoin (2-2, 1-2) to a 2-1 win over Bates (0-4-1, 0-3) in a NESCAC game in Brunswick.

FIELD HOCKEY: Peyton Dostie had four goals and two assists as Southern Maine (3-3) cruised by New England College (0-8) 11-1 in a non-conference matchup in Gorham.

FOOTBALL: Miami announced QB Kevin Olsen’s departure a day after he was arrested for DUI.

Olsen never played for Miami. He was redshirted in 2013.

OLYMPICS

RIO DE JANEIRO: Organizers announced the basic outline of ticket prices for the 2016 Olympics.

Organizers said 7.5 million tickets will be issued for the Rio Games. Half of them – 3.8 million – will be priced under $30. Organizers said the cheapest ticket will be about $20.

The most expensive ticket will be about $2,000 for the opening ceremony.

BASKETBALL

NBA: Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed said he has already talked with six potential buyers for the Atlanta Hawks and expects a sale of the team to move quickly after racially charged comments by owner Bruce Levenson and GM Danny Ferry.

The Kings will retire Peja Stojakovic’s No. 16 jersey when they host Oklahoma City on Dec. 16.

INTERNATIONAL: International basketball’s governing body said players will be allowed to wear religious head coverings, such as hijabs or turbans, on a trial basis in some competitions.

INDYCAR: Rookie driver Mikhail Aleshin was released from an Indianapolis hospital and is expected to make a full recovery from injuries suffered in a crash last month.

Aleshin was diagnosed with a concussion, chest injuries, fractured ribs and a broken clavicle after a crash in practice in Fontana on Aug. 29.

TENNIS

KOREA OPEN: Top-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska began her title defense in comfortable fashion by beating Polona Hercog 6-3, 6-3 in Seoul, South Korea.

SOCCER

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Real Madrid started its title defense with an emphatic 5-1 victory over Basel, and Liverpool celebrated its return to Europe’s top club competition with a dramatic 2-1 win against Bulgarian side Ludogorets.

GOLF

PGA: Rory McIlroy is the Vardon Trophy winner and the PGA of America’s player of the year for the second time.
