EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Jay Cutler threw two touchdown passes to Martellus Bennett, and the Chicago Bears took advantage of some early mistakes by the New York Jets before holding on for a 27-19 victory Monday night.

Ryan Mundy returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown on the Jets’ second play from scrimmage. After the Bears (2-1) recovered a fumbled punt a few minutes later, Bennett scored from 7 yards to take a 14-0 lead 5:06 into the game.

Cutler finished 23 of 38 for 225 yards and Alshon Jeffery caught eight passes for 105 yards for the Bears, who got a 45-yard field goal from Robbie Gould to make it an eight-point game with 3:10 remaining.

The Jets (1-2) had one last opportunity to tie, getting into Bears territory on Geno Smith’s 51-yard pass to Greg Salas. But Jeremy Kerley was out of bounds when he caught Smith’s desperation fourth-down heave.

CHARGERS: Coach Mike McCoy says running back Danny Woodhead has a broken lower right leg and will miss the rest of the season.

Woodhead was hurt on the first drive of the Chargers’ 22-10 win at Buffalo. He was stopped after a 1-yard gain by diving defensive tackle Kyle Williams. Williams hit Woodhead directly in the right ankle, which appeared to twist underneath the player.

49ers: Authorities say they are investigating a weekend burglary at the home of San Francisco defensive lineman Ray McDonald.

Police Sgt. Heather Randol said Monday that someone broke into McDonald’s San Jose home and stole several personal items late Saturday night. No arrests have been made.

McDonald is still waiting to hear from Santa Clara County prosecutors on whether he will face any charges in connection with his arrest on suspicion of domestic violence at his home on Aug. 31. McDonald lives at the address with his fiancee.

VIKINGS: Tight end Kyle Rudolph is scheduled to see a specialist about a muscle injury that forced him out of the game at New Orleans.

Coach Mike Zimmer said Rudolph will visit with Dr. William Meyers on Tuesday in Philadelphia.

Asked Monday if Rudolph will need surgery, Zimmer said no decision has been made.

The Vikings lost a lot Sunday against the Saints. Rudolph was one of four starters who left the game, including quarterback Matt Cassel, right guard Brandon Fusco and linebacker Chad Greenway.

FALCONS: Atlanta’s defense was handed a new challenge as players returned from their long weekend: How to contain Teddy Bridgewater.

Bridgewater, the rookie quarterback from Louisville, will make his first start for Minnesota on Sunday against Atlanta.

Giants: While New York appeared to avoid any serious injuries for their mid-week game against Washington, that doesn’t mean there won’t be any lineup changes.

Coach Tom Coughlin said that safety Stevie Brown was not hurt when he was replaced by rookie Nat Berhe in the second half of the 30-17 win over the Houston Texans Sunday.

WASHINGTON: Three-time Pro Bowl cornerback DeAngelo Hall will miss the rest of the 2014 season with a ruptured left Achilles.

RAVENS: Tight end Dennis Pitta has undergone surgery to repair a dislocated right hip and is done for the year.

ROB BIRONAS: A woman told a 911 dispatcher former Titans kicker Rob Bironas was driving erratically just before his SUV crashed.

The 911 call was obtained Monday by several media outlets.
