Signed Mass for the deaf community, 4 p.m., celebrated by Father Shawn Carey, director of the Deaf Apostolate for the Archdiocese of Boston and held at St. Joseph Church, 178 Elm St. (Route 1), Biddeford. An interpreter will voice the Mass to assist Carey, who is deaf. A reception will follow. Students at St. John’s Catholic School in Brunswick collected 267 pairs of footwear, as well as school supplies, for children at Mbabaali Memorial Nursery and Primary School in Kampala, Uganda. Parasites in the soil that can infect feet, and without shoes the children are not allowed to attend school, which has mostly AIDS orphans. Operation Mbabaali began in September and ended on Halloween. The items will be sent in a medical transport that should arrive in early January.
