A lieutenant with the Cumberland County Jail is on paid administrative leave while a felony theft case against him progresses.

Waldoboro police arrested Scott Jordan, 36, of Standish on Friday, charging him with theft by unauthorized taking in what Police Chief William Labombarde called a case of elder abuse. Jordan is accused of stealing items, including at least one gun, from his father, who lives in Waldoboro, Labombarde said.

The thefts occurred from May to August, police said.

Jordan had been out of work for medical reasons and was due to return Friday.

However, Waldoboro police searched Jordan’s home Friday and recovered items that led to his arrest, said Officer Larry Hazelton, the lead investigator in the case. He would not say what items were recovered, other than the gun.

Theft of less than $10,000 is typically a misdemeanor, but Jordan is charged with stealing a gun, which elevates the theft to a felony. Jordan is free on $5,000 bail.

Jordan does not have a listed telephone number and could not be reached for comment.

Jordan was charged with simple assault in April for his role in a fight with a man at Jordan’s home on North East Road.
