BRATTLEBORO, Vt. – A Vermont solid waste management district says it has 11 proposals to build a solar array on a closed landfill in Brattleboro.

The Windham Solid Waste Management District says four of the proposals are from Vermont companies.

The system being considered is expected to generate as much as 5 megawatts of power as well as revenue for the district and its 19 member towns.

Waste District Executive Director Bob Spencer tells the Brattleboro Reformer they’ll be reviewing the proposals and probably interviewing some of the firms. They expect to choose a company by March.

The contractor will have to pursue the needed permits, including a certificate of public good from the Vermont Public Service Board.

Spencer says he expects little public opposition.
