ST. JOHN’S, NEWFOUNDLAND — Mike McKenna made 32 saves and the Portland Pirates scored three late-period goals in a 3-0 win over the St. John’s IceCaps at the Mile One Centre.

McKenna, who recorded his fifth shutout, has stopped more than 30 shots in six of his last 10 games, compiling a 7-2-1 record over the stretch. McKenna also dropped his goals-against average to 2.09 and increased his save percentage to .934.

Justin Hodgman scored his seventh goal from Brendan Shinnimin and Jordon Southorn on a power play with 2:48 left in the first period and 8 seconds before Ryan Parent’s penalty for tripping was to expire.

Eric Selleck scored his fifth goal unassisted with 2:29 left in the second, and Alexandre Bolduc banked an empty-netter with 1:14 remaining in the third for his team-leading 12th goal.
