Old Orchard Beach has reached an agreement with the East Coast Baseball League to field a team at The Ballpark in 2015.

“The town is excited to welcome back professional baseball to The Ballpark this summer,” town manager Larry Mead said in a press release issued Tuesday.

The ECBL is a new independent pro baseball league based in Canada. It plans to have four teams play a 48- to 60-game schedule this season.

The Raging Tide played at The Ballpark the past four summers, the last three in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League, a wooden-bat summer league.

The ECBL is conducting a “name the team” contest for the Old Orchard franchise on its Facebook page. It has named Scott “Nate” Nathanson as the team’s manager and Alex Markakis as the interim general manager.
