The state Department of Environmental Protection has scheduled a public hearing for March 25 on a stormwater management permit for a proposed layover facility for Amtrak Downeaster trains in Brunswick.
The hearing on the project will begin at 9 a.m. at the Brunswick Golf Club, at 165 River Road. The daytime hearing is open to the public, but will be devoted to taking testimony from the applicant, which is the Northern New England Rail Authority, and intervenors.
The nighttime portion of the hearing will begin at 6 p.m. and will be for testimony from the public.
The rail authority wants to build the layover facility to repair and clean trains that run from Brunswick and Portland to Boston. Residents of a nearby neighborhood have opposed the project, citing noise and possible pollution concerns.
