AUBURNDALE, Fla. — Paul McDonough hit a two-run, game-ending homer in the 10th inning of the opener, and the University of Southern Maine used two late surges to sweep Roger Williams 3-1 and 6-2 in a baseball doubleheader Tuesday.

In the first game, Southern Maine starter Zack Bean allowed one run on four hits in six-plus innings. Andrew Richards took over with one out in the seventh and allowed one hit the rest of the way for his first win of the season.

Sam Dexter provided a solo homer for the Huskies in the sixth.

In Game 2, the Huskies sent 11 batters to the plate in the seventh to rally from a 2-0 hole. McDonough drove in the first run with a one-out double, and Anthony Capuano and Brendon Joyce each provided a two-run single.

ST. JOSEPH’S SPLITS WITH WESTFIELD STATE: Joe Coyne was 3 for 4 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs, and the Monks (6-8) rallied to a 9-4 win in the second game of a doubleheader to salvage a split with Westfield State (5-8) at Winter Haven, Florida.

St. Joseph’s put together six hits for six runs in the bottom of the fifth to overcome a 4-1 deficit.

The Monks fell 4-3 in the opener, allowing two runs in the bottom of the seventh.Lincoln Sanborn was 3 for 3.

SOFTBALL

USM 2, WESLEYAN 1: Erika Millet pitched a three-hitter, Kristen Duross hit a go-ahead RBI single in the fifth, and the Huskies beat Wesleyan (1-2), at Clermont, Florida.

USM 13, FRANCISCAN 0: Desiree Benner allowed just two hits and the Huskies (3-1) rolled to a five-inning win over Franciscan (0-5) in their second game of the day.

ST. JOSEPH’S 11, WILMINGTON (OHIO) 1: Theresa Hendrix was 2 for 3 with three RBI, and St. Joseph’s scored six runs in the top of the sixth to claim a mercy-rule win over Wilmington (3-6) at Fort Myers, Florida.

ST. JOSEPH’S 13, ROCKFORD 5: Theresa Hendrix singled, doubled and homered to bring in four runs as the Monks (7-1) won their second game of the day, downing Rockford (2-8) in five innings at Cape Coral, Florida.

UW-STEVENS POINT 10, BOWDOIN 3: Wisconsin-Stevens Point (3-2) scored seven runs in the top of the seventh for a win over Bowdoin (2-1) at Clermont, Florida.

Emily Griffi had an RBI and scored a run to help Bowdoin take a 3-0 lead in the first five innings.

Later in the day, Bowdoin defeated Milliken University 6-5 in 11 innings.

BOSTON UNIVERSITY 5, MAINE 2: The Black Bears (9-11) surrendered three runs in the top of the seventh in a loss to the Terriers (3-14) at Clearwater, Florida. Janelle Bouchard hit a two-run single for Maine in the first.

MEN’S LACROSSE

UNE 16, ST. JOSEPH’S 5: Sophomore Dan Auger tied a University of New England record with six assists as the Nor’easters (3-1) downed St. Joseph’s (0-2) at Biddeford. Auger’s effort matched the mark set by Dylan Thomas in 2011.
