Kat Gadbois scored two goals and assisted on two others as St. Joseph’s built a 7-0 halftime lead on the way to a 9-7 win over Lasell in a women’s lacrosse game Saturday at Deering High School.

Elizabeth Elcock, Elyse Caiazzo and Kelsey Dumond also scored two goals apiece for the Monks (6-1, 3-0 GNAC) against the Lasers (4-4, 3-1). Caiazzo added an assist.

Mary Leasure contributed a goal and an assist.

KEENE STATE 12, SOUTHERN MAINE 11: Polly Grey scored the go-ahead goal with 2:35 remaining, and goalie Alison Argiro blocked Lauren Lessard’s free-position bid in the closing seconds as the Owls (1-8, 1-0) edged the Huskies (1-6, 0-1) in Gorham.

Southern Maine trailed 11-9 before Anh Nguyen and Sam Campobasso scored in the fourth quarter.

Heather Everett paced USM with four goals and an assist. Nguyen had three goals and an assist, and Sarah Pelligrinelli and Campobasso each had two goals.

WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 20, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 8: Kaitlynn Stevens had seven goals and two assists to lead the Golden Bears (7-1, 2-0 Commonwealth Coast) past the Nor’easters (3-6, 0-2) at Springfield, Massachusetts.

Gina Newsome scored three goals and Macki Hill added two for the Nor’easters.

TRINITY 11, BOWDOIN 6: Martha Griffin tallied twice as the Bantams (8-1, 4-1 NESCAC) scored the last four goals to pull away from the Polar Pears (6-2, 3-2) in Brunswick.

The Polar Bears, who trailed 6-2 with 21:45 remaining, closed to within 7-6 on Olivia Raisner’s goal with 11:43 left.

Griffin finished with four goals. Bowdoin got two goals each from Lindsay Picard and Clare McLaughlin.

HAMILTON 6, BATES 2: Morgan Fletcher scored twice and assisted on a third goal while leading the Continentals (8-1, 4-1 NESCAC) to a victory against Bates (5-6, 1-5) in Clinton, New York.

Kaileigh Maguire and Joanie Oates scored for the Bobcats, who trailed 3-2 at halftime.

COLBY 10, WESLEYAN 5: Kendall Smith, Abby Hatch and Sara Miller scored twice apiece, and Claire Dickson stopped 14 shots for the Mules (9-1, 4-1 NESCAC) in a win over Wesleyan (4-5, 0-4) at Waterville.

The Mules, ranked No. 3 in the nation in Division III, scored the final goal of the opening half to take a 4-3 lead, and got five consecutive goals in the opening 9:02 of the second half.

Abby Hooper, Cassie Rodgers, Celeste Murtha and Emilie Klein also scored for Colby.

MEN’S LACROSSE

EASTERN CONNECTICUT STATE 16, SOUTHERN MAINE 6: Shawn Tierney scored four goals to lead the Warriors (3-4, 1-0 Little East) to a win over the Huskies (3-2, 0-1) at Mansfield, Connecticut.

Seth Wing paced USM with three goals. Keegan Smith added two goals and an assist.

WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 19, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 6: Justin Bard collected four goals and two assists for the Golden Bears (5-4, 2-0 Commonwealth Coast) as they cruised to a win over the Nor’easters (4-5, 0-2) at Springfield, Massachusetts.

J.T. Oliver, Tom Luttrell, Shamus Higginbottom, Keston Beauregard, Andrew Curro and Connor Leggett scored for UNE. Dan Auger and David Rubenstein collected two assists apiece.

MOUNT IDA 17, ST. JOSEPH’S 7: Austin Phillips scored three goals and the Mustangs (2-4, 2-1 GNAC) closed out the game with a 9-1 run to pull away from the Monks (5-3, 2-1) at Newton, Massachusetts.

Patrick Hills scored three goals, and Brendan Barrett contributed a goal and three assists for the Monks.

TRINITY 8, BOWDOIN 7: Matt Hauck picked up a ground ball and passed to Robert DiSimone for the winning goal with 45 seconds left in overtime, giving the Bantams (3-6, 1-4 NESCAC) a win over the Polar Bears (1-7, 1-4) in Hartford, Connecticut.

Bowdoin forced overtime with three goals in the final 2:07 of regulation. David Nemirov scored twice during the rally, and Peter Reuter added the tying goal with 53 seconds remaining.

HAMILTON 8, BATES 7: John Zimmerman scored a point-blank shot with under 20 seconds remaining, giving Hamilton (6-3, 2-3 NESCAC) a victory over the Bobcats (4-4, 1-4) in Lewiston.

Charlie Fay tallied four goals as Bates rallied from a 6-2 third-quarter deficit. Kyle Weber scored twice and Jack Strain had a goal and an assist.

WESLEYAN 9, COLBY 8: Harry Stanton’s goal with 52 seconds remaining gave the Cardinals (6-3, 3-1 NESCAC) a comeback win over the Mules (5-3, 2-3) in Middletown, Connecticut.

Wesleyan opened the second half with five straight goals to take an 8-6 lead. Colby tied it on goals by Derek Youngman and Alex Rutan.

John Grimaldi finished with three goals and an assist, and Youngman also scored three times for the Mules.

BASEBALL

SOUTHERN MAINE SWEPT: E.J. Lavoie rapped a two-out single and scored on Chris Callahan’s double in the bottom of the 11th inning to give Western Connecticut State (7-4, 2-0 Little East) a 2-1 victory over Southern Maine (8-5, 0-2) and a doubleheader sweep in Fishkill, New York.

The Colonials won the first game 14-8, breaking an 8-8 tie with a six-run eighth. Matt Bender had three hits for the Huskies and Nick DiBiase three runs scored.

DiBiase also had an RBI in the second game, driving home Dylan Morris.

CASTLETON SWEEPS COLBY: Castleton State (7-3) scored a pair of runs on a dropped popup with two outs in the top of the eighth inning and held on for a 12-10 win over Colby (9-3) in the opening game of a doubleheader at Auburndale, Florida.

Tim Corey hit a pair of doubles, scored twice and drove in two runs, and Nils Carlson added three RBI in the opener for the Mules.

In Game 2, Corey had two hits and two RBI and Tommy Forese hit a solo home run for Colby in a 15-4 loss.
