The presentation “Take a Wild Ride on the Great Ocean Conveyor Belt: Places of Hope and Restoration” will be given by National Geographic explorer Tierney Thys at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Waynflete School’s Franklin Theater.

Admission is free, but donations will be accepted to benefit scholarships for Sustainable Ocean Studies, a 23-day marine biology summer program.

Dance to raise funds for artist

A fundraiser dance benefiting artist Zoo Cain will begin at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Gold Room, 512 Warren Ave.

John Muir Trail hiker to speak

The talk “Hiking the John Muir Trail” will be presented at 7 p.m. Tuesday at York Public Library, 15 Long Sands Road.

New England peak-bagger Allison Nadler will share about her 2014 through-hike of the John Muir Trail, a 220-mile footpath that leads from Yosemite National Park to Mount Whitney, the tallest summit in the Lower 48. See photographs from her journey and learn how she prepared for a solo 15-day high-altitude hike in the Sierra Nevadas. Nadler will follow the talk with an audience Q&A.

Event to raise autism funds

York Harbor Inn will host the Light It Up Blue event from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday to bring awareness to Autism Awareness Month and to raise funds for Waban and other local autism charities.

The event will include a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, free photo booth, music and food, and the York Fire Department will be on site with a firetruck to allow children and adults to climb aboard and learn what it means to be a firefighter.

Suggested donation at the door is $10 per person or $25 per family.

Registrations are being accepted for the next round of A Matter of Balance classes, to be offered from 10 a.m. to noon April 8 through May 27 at the Falmouth Learning Resource Center at 5 Bucknam Road.

The classes are intended to address the concerns that many older adults experience about falling that lead them to restrict activities. The workshop will teach participants to manage falls and increase activity.

Class to teach rug hooking

Poet McNair to speak

A Lunch and Learn session with Maine Poet Laureate Wesley McNair will be held at noon Friday at the Wells Public Library, 1434 Post Road.

McNair, a writer, editor and professor, has authored 10 volumes of poetry; his most recent collection is “The Lost Child: Ozark Poems.”

Poet plans talk, concert

Belfast Poet Laureate Toussaint St. Negritude will present “Our Tones Supreme,” a concert of multiple tones of poetry and jazz, from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday in the grand Gammons Room of the Belfast Free Library at 106 High St.

The event will feature performances by The Jacob Fricke/Tom Luther Duo, Joshua Kauppila, The Acetones and Judi Erickson.

The event will be preceded by the Pen Side Lecture Series “Free Radicals: The Creative Rights Movements of Poetry & Jazz,” hosted by St. Negritude from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday in the library’s third-floor conference room.
